About Fearless League

Software for the life sciences

About Fearless League

Fearless League is a life sciences software company based in Leiden, the Netherlands.

Photo51 is our first application: a modern molecular biology platform for sequence design, plasmid editing, cloning, primer design and team collaboration. It's the first step in our broader ambition to build practical, well-designed software for scientists and educators.

Our work brings together scientific understanding, software development and direct input from researchers and educators. The result is software designed around the way people actually work in laboratories, research teams and science education.

Closer to the people building the product

Life sciences software works best when the people developing it understand the work behind it.

At Fearless League, questions, feedback and feature ideas reach people who understand both the scientific or educational workflow and the product. This allows us to respond thoughtfully, identify the real problem and work with users on practical improvements.

Working with Fearless League means:

Direct access to scientific and product expertise
Responsive support from people who understand life sciences workflows
Practical help with migration, setup and onboarding
Flexible options for individuals, laboratories, research teams and educators
Thoughtful responses to feature requests and workflow challenges
Product decisions shaped by real research and teaching needs

Building tools together with the community

Researchers and educators help shape the tools they use every day.

Many of the improvements we make begin with a conversation. Your feedback doesn't disappear into a ticket system. It reaches the people designing and developing the software, so the tools better fit the way you work.

Story behind Photo51

In May 1952, Rosalind Franklin and her PhD student Raymond Gosling produced an exceptionally clear X-ray diffraction image of DNA at King's College London. The exposure took 62 hours. The image was simply numbered Photograph 51.

It became one of the most important images in the history of molecular biology. Photo 51 revealed key features of the B-form of DNA and provided crucial evidence in the work that led to the double-helix model.

What we like about the story is not only the importance of the image itself. Photo 51 was the result of painstaking experimental work: improving methods, refining samples, controlling conditions and continuing until the data became clearer.

We named our molecular biology software Photo51 in honor of Rosalind Franklin and the researchers whose careful, persistent work makes scientific discovery possible.
